Registration confirms your land trust’s intent to renew and is an important step in the process. You’ll confirm your organization’s contact information which ensures your land trust stays up to date with important reminders and messages from the Commission. But before you register, make sure you understand the renewal process steps and, if your land trust hasn’t already, review resources that can help set you up for a successful renewal process.

Registration Overview

Registration opens approximately six months before the main application is due. The main contact in the Accreditation Management System, AMS, will have received registration reminders and due dates prior to registration opening – it’s important to keep contact information current. Your land trust will have instant access to the pre-application and main application after the registration is submitted.

Registration Form

The registration form has three sections (you can preview the registration questions, pre-application and main application in the Renewal Reference Application Packet, see below):

  • Land Trust Information

  • Related Corporations

  • Application Terms of Agreement

Payment of the $850 registration fee is due at the time of registration. The fee is nonrefundable and nontransferable. Payments will be processed by a secure online payment system; the fee may be paid via VISA, Discover, MasterCard, or eCheck/ACH.

Please note that the registration fee is a flat fee whereas your application fee is calculated based on your land trust’s total annual expenses, learn more.

Due Dates and Fees

Knowing your application due dates and understanding application fees is an important part of the renewal process. Budgeting of your land trust’s time and resources is good planning.

Renewal Registration FAQs

  • If your organization has a multiple corporate structure (such as an LLC or a supporting organization) then the Commission will need to make a determination of whether the organization will need to provide additional documentation. If you think your organization is legally linked to another entity, contact the Commission as early in the renewal process as possible (you can even reach out before you register). Read more about related entities.

  • About 18 months before the land trust is required to apply, the Commission will send a letter to the accreditation contact with the specific renewal round the land trust has been assigned to. The round assigned is based on the accreditation expiration date. The specific dates for the registration period will be identified in the letter. The Commission will contact the primary accreditation contact about 6 weeks before registration opens, as a reminder.

  • To confirm or change your accreditation contact send us an email or call us at 518.587.3143 with the updated information.

  • Registration remains open for about 2 months because we understand that each organization prioritizes and plans for renewal in a way that best fits its working schedule. The actual registration process should take just a few minutes!

  • No matter when you submit your registration within the registration period your due date does not change from what is posted. In other words, your due date and accreditation review timeline are not adjusted based on when you submit your registration.

  • If your organization wishes to apply for renewal of accreditation earlier than required, you may request permission to register for one round earlier than when your application is required. The Commission will attempt to accommodate your preference; however, priority will be given to applicants that must apply in that round.

  • There are very limited circumstances where the land trust may be given a one round extension to the due date. See Deadlines and Exceptions for Catastrophes.

What to Expect After Registration

Submitting registration gives your land trust instant access to the pre-application and main application. Your pre-application is due approximately three months before your main application due date. Review due dates.
